You learn it when you teach it!
A test requires you to know your knowledge, an essay challenges you to explain yourself understandably and tastefully–if you can include wit in there, then you really have a win–teaching expects you to know the complete foundation of knowledge, and have a good guess of the answer to questions to which you don’t know the answer. As an intern this Fall, I taught white water rafting, and a seminar on conflict management. Two very different skills, two very different experiences, yet repeatable skills learned. Eye contact. Communicate expectations clearly. Speak little and loud. Be firm. Seek to understand. Know the lesson plan.
